How we’re taking action this International Women’s Day 2025

By Photobox on 19 February 2025

‘Actions speak louder than words’ is the Photobox motto for this year’s International Women’s Day. Read on to find out how our team are putting it into practice (literally).

International Women’s Day (8th March 2025) is an annual celebration of achievements of women. It’s also a call to action. Words of solidarity are powerful and support of any kind is important, but it’s actions that create lasting change.

Did you know that at the current pace, it’ll take 134 years (around five generations) to reach gender equality? That’s way too long. This year’s IWD theme Accelerate Action encourages us to move past the well-meaning posts and corporate statements and start asking: what can we actually do to make change happen?

We asked the women behind our brands at Storio group how they’re turning intent into impact for 2025. And let’s just say, they delivered. From calling out everyday sexism to supporting female entrepreneurs, they’re all taking real actions to make a real difference.

Prepared to be truly inspired (if we do say so ourselves)…

Meet the women of Storio group

Meet: Marion Escot

Role: CRM Operations Specialist
Marion’s action for 2025: Helping women and allies challenge everyday sexism

“A few years ago, I started running awareness sessions in schools in Paris to educate students about gender equality. I quickly realised there weren’t enough resources for tackling casual sexism, so I created my own. What started as a small social media project has now grown to over 116K followers on Instagram and 18K on Threads. I’ve also written a book to give young people tools and strategies to call out sexism in their daily lives. Now, I run workshops to teach companies, schools, and individuals how to transform the way we communicate, challenge bias and stereotypes, and inspire long-term shifts in mindsets.”

Meet: Chloe Edghill

Role: Traffic Manager
Chloe’s action for 2025: Supporting women-owned businesses

“Supporting female-owned businesses is something we can all do. And it doesn’t always have to be a big gesture – for me, it’s the small, everyday choices like showing up and spreading the word that can have the most impact. My cousin runs a Caribbean café and the food is amazing. I bring friends and family there, recommend it to everyone I know, and even voted for her in a local ‘Best Small Business’ competition (which she won!). These might seem like small actions, but for independent women in business, they mean everything.”

Meet: Anna Jordana

Role: Creative Copywriter
Anna’s action for 2025: Championing women’s voices and stories

“This year, I want to read more books by women, about women on topics like feminism, gender equality, history and art. I also want to encourage (even more than I do already) the women in my life to keep chasing their dreams and goals. And, just as importantly, I want to be more empathetic and understanding of past generations of women like my Mum, who grew up in a world that didn’t give them the same choices we have today.”

Meet: Fiona Logan

Role: Editorial Content Specialist
Fiona’s action for 2025: Speaking up (even when it’s uncomfortable)

“I’m working on using my voice in situations where I might usually stay silent to call out sexism, to support other women, and to challenge the idea that politeness should come before speaking up. I’m also tackling my own unconscious gender bias. I’ve caught myself assuming that certain tasks (like DIY) are ‘men’s jobs’, so I’m actively learning these skills myself. I really want to encourage the next generation (in this case, my nieces) how to be strong and how to stand up for themselves – it’s so important they know that there’s no right or wrong way to be a girl in this world.”

Meet: Elena Ferrari

Role: Brand Communications Specialist
Elena’s action for 2025: Investing in financial equality

“Every woman deserves to feel financially confident – this year, I’m taking a female-led investment course through an app created by women, for women. I’ll also be making monthly donations to an NGO that works towards improving gender equality laws and policies all over the world.”

Meet: Stella Casella

Role: Creative Studio Manager
Stella’s action for 2025: Celebrating female artists

“As an art lover, I always make a conscious effort to support women in the creative industries by buying work from female artists. Whenever I discover someone new, I share their work and stories with my friends too. Many years ago, my sister and I also ran an artistic workshop for women in Manila, helping them decorate woodwork they could sell. We taught them how to reinvest profits back into their businesses, and I financially supported one woman’s studies. Today, she’s thriving, and that makes me immensely proud.”

Want to support female artists too? Here are Stella’s recommendations: books like this (for younger generations); Poster by the pink highlight project; Book of plants by Anne Gene; The Nutcracker by Sanna Annuka; Poster by Mull&Mill; Few Story tiles; Pillows and hot water bottle by Donna Wilson.

Let’s hear it for our a-mazing team.

Now it’s over to you – what’s one action you’ll take to support gender equality this year? And remember, while we’ve used this moment to celebrate the epic women in our team, International Women’s Day isn’t just for women. It’s for anyone who cares about women’s equality. So round up your loved ones – partners, dads, brothers, best friends included – and start the conversation. When enough people take collective action, change stops being a slow process and starts happening right now.
