Ayle Colliery 2021-2022

A monograph of images made at Ayle Colliery in Cumbria UK. England's last fully active coal mine. In existence for nearly 100 years and still going strong. Ayle produces a high grade, low gas anthracite mainly for domestic use across the fells of the Cumbrian and Northumberland border. All the half dozen miners are effectively self employed. The working coal face is less than a metre high.
